Resilient & Ready update - profile videos and mentoring journey
|
Hear from the current cohort of farmers on their reasons for joining the Resilient & Ready programme as well as their ambitions for the rest of the journey in their profile videos: Nick and Lucy Tyler; Bryony and Archie Graham.
|
|
|
|
To encourage and develop collaborative relationships and knowledge exchange, the farmers have been visiting alumni as part of the mentoring journey within the programme.
Nick Down hosted the first mentoring session last year at Yattendon Estates, a 3,200ha farm in West Berkshire. During this session, he welcomed the cohort 2 farmers, along with representatives from LEAF and Corteva. Nick outlined his farming set up, his journey on the Resilient & Ready programme, and his current goals and challenges. Despite differences in farm size and type, the farmers engaged in fruitful discussions, sharing common challenges and solutions. Nick’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and reducing the carbon footprint was evident throughout the tour of the estate. For more details, explore Nick’s journey on the Resilient & Ready programme here.

The next mentoring session was hosted by Andy Bason in February this year at Newhouse Farm, an 800ha estate in Hampshire. Andy outlined the farming practices of the estate and how they have adapted to the changing legislative framework, as well as his personal journey through the Resilient & Ready programme. As a keen spokesperson, Andy enjoys getting involved in local initiatives and has set up a cluster group of farms in the neighboring areas to collaborate and share knowledge and insights. Following from some great discussion, the group then enjoyed a tour of the farm. Discover more about Andy’s journey on the Resilient & Ready programme here.

Meet the Corteva Team - Abi Morton
|
How well do you know our team? We’re kicking off a new “Meet the team” blog series. For those that don’t know Abi Morton, Area Manager for the Midlands area of England, you can read her blog here and discover her journey to Corteva, how she keeps up to date with changes within the sector, and the advice she would give to anyone aspiring to get into the industry.
Can you describe your journey to becoming an Area Manager at Corteva?
After completing my BSc (Hons) degree in Agriculture with Crop Management at Harper-Adams University College, I worked as an agronomist for 11 years. I joined Corteva in 2021 as an Area Manager, and I have been enjoying the role ever since.
What has been the most interesting project you've worked on at Corteva?
I have been involved in many exciting projects at Corteva, but two stand out for me. The first involves supporting farmers with Inatreq™, and the second involves working on BlueN™ trials in potatoes. Both of these projects have helped strengthen the relationship and commitment between Corteva and farmers, which is something very important to me and my role.

2023 Farmer Survey results and findings
|
We are delighted with the response to our recent Farmer Survey which has provided valuable insights in our mission to support growers. We received submissions from across the UK, with the majority coming from farmers with an average farm size over 500 Ha.
Here are just some of the key highlights from the survey:
- Almost three quarters of participants had heard of Corteva or had a deeper knowledge of the company, with feedback on experiences being positive.
- The quality of support and information provided by Corteva, when ranked against other manufacturers, came out on top.
- The area of sustainability remains a hot topic and something respondents are keen to continue to hear more about.
We thank all participants of the survey. Insights and feedback will continue to drive our work in developing communications that support farmers as well as enabling us to give technical advice and support when it is needed most. You can read the full article here.

New maize hybrids offer something for everyone
|
Every year we improve the genetics of our Pioneer® maize hybrids to ensure we have something to offer for everyone. This season sees the launch of four new maize hybrids alongside existing well-known Pioneer favourites.
The very early maturing P7381 is one of the new hybrids attracting particular attention having produced impressive results in the 2023 PACTS® trials. It showed high dry matter contents of 37.5-38.2% across all sites and good resilience to both the dry conditions of 2022 and cooler temperatures last year.
Here is what Alan Lockhard, ForFarmers forage specialist had to say;
|
“I need maize varieties which perform in the unpredictable weather patterns constantly thrown at us in the UK. Varieties like P7381 give me the confidence to deliver results on farm in the strive to produce milk and red meat sustainably from important forages such as maize.”
Alan Lockhart, ForFarmers Forage Specialist

PACTS results for 2024/25
|
Have you seen our PACTS® book yet? The latest maize PACTS results were published following a full programme of UK and Ireland trials in 2023. PACTS is an abbreviation for ‘Pioneer® Accurate Crop Testing System’ and refers to multi-location on-farm conducted trials that allow us to accurately describe the performance of the Pioneer maize hybrids we offer for sale.

Cereal growers warned of septoria “perfect storm”
After the warmest February on record for England and Wales, followed by a very wet March, early indications in the field are pointing towards a high septoria pressure year. For the past three years, independent AHDB trials have shown that Corteva’s Univoq™ fungicide is the most effective product for the control of septoria in wheat. Read the full press release here.
