Stay ahead this winter: Corteva's essential December
top tips for OSR success
With some great crops of oilseed rape out there and winter arriving, the challenges increase with more unpredictable cooler weather, crops opening up allowing for further weed emergence.
Here are some of Corteva's top weed control recommendations:
- Apply propyzamide before the deadline: the cut-off for Astrokerb® and Kerb® Flo 500 is 31st January. Complete all stewardship checks before applying.
- Extra broad-leaved weed control?: Belkar® can still be applied until 31st December, and be tank mixed with Astrokerb or Kerb Flo 500.
- Plan ahead for weed management: as crops open up in spring, review weed pressure and order Korvetto® for a thorough clean-up.
Astrokerb and Kerb Flo 500 FAQs:
Can I tank mix Belkar with Kerb Flo 500 or Astrokerb?
Yes, Kerb Flo 500 or Astrokerb are compatible with Belkar for additional broad-leaved weed control and can be mixed with approved graminicides or fungicides to avoid extra spray passes.
Do I need a dry leaf for application?
No, Kerb Flo 500 is soil-acting, so spraying wet weeds or light rainfall after application is not an issue.
Do I need a dry leaf for Astrokerb?
Ideally apply to a drying leaf. Rainfastness for the aminopyralid component is about 1 hour; heavy rain within that time may reduce efficacy.
What is the rainfast period for Astrokerb?
For the aminopyralid component, rainfastness is approximately 1 hour. Avoid spraying if heavy rain is imminent.
What stewardship steps should I follow for Kerb Flo 500 or Astrokerb?
Check field drains, avoid spraying near watercourses and follow buffer zone requirements. Always complete your propyzamide stewardship checklist before application.

Thinking about your spring cereals and which
seed treatment to use?
Spring sowing presents unique challenges for cereal crops - cool soils, variable moisture and early-season stress can compromise establishment and yield. Ympact®, a growth nutrition seed treatment, is designed to overcome these hurdles by enhancing germination, root development and stress resilience.
Ympact is a biostimulant seed treatment for all cereal crops, formulated with:
- Humic and fulvic acids: to help improve soil structure, water retention and the bioavailability of nutrients.
- Chelated micronutrients: Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn) and Copper (Cu) to support enzymatic activity, photosynthesis and cell division.
Spring cereals often face abiotic stress and uneven emergence. Ympact addresses these issues by:
- Accelerating emergence and early vigour: ensures uniform crop establishment.
- Enhancing root architecture: trials show improved root length and overall root growth increases.
- Improving nutrient uptake and water retention: humic substances can hold up to seven times their volume in water.
- Reducing chemical stress: mitigates negative effects from conventional seed treatments.
- Boosting yield potential: supports photosynthesis critical for tiller and grain development.
To help you get your spring cereal crops off to a good start, it's worth adding Ympact to your standard seed dressings.

Gearing up for spring:
tackling early weed pressures in cereals
As thoughts turn to Christmas, growers shouldn't forget the importance of early season weed control in cereals next spring. Although it remains to be seen what spring 2026 will look like, this autumn residual herbicides went on in warm, dry conditions, so will most likely run out of steam early.
Warm conditions are also promoting continued germination of both grass weeds and broad-leaved weeds. Combining a drop-off in the efficacy of residual chemistry with continued weed emergence, it is important to control weeds that will take advantage of this, such as bromes, ryegrass, meadow-grasses and broad-leaved weeds, including cleavers and mayweeds, as early as possible before they impact crop performance.
Where residuals have not yet been applied, or may have been compromised with poor seedbeds or applied to organic or lighter soil types, then meadow-grasses will often be dominant by spring. Annual meadow-grass is the most common grass weed in the UK, with a wide emergence period and fast lifecycle.

In 2025, Corteva Agriscience launched Broadway® Ultra, a combination of two of the most effective grass weed herbicides, pyroxsulam and mesosulfuron-methyl, offering arable farmers the ability to control an extensive spectrum of grass and broad-leaved weeds in a single pass. Broadway Ultra applied at 100 g/ha delivers 14 grams of each active per ha, in an easy to use, wettable granule.
Getting the best results out of Broadway Ultra
Applications may be made in winter wheat and triticale from 1st January, until the middle of May. Growers should use it at a rate of 100 g/ha, in combination with an approved adjuvant. On-farm use in 2025 demonstrated excellent results from this early timing, taking out grass weed competition early, whilst dealing with a range of broad-leaved weeds.
With excellent crop safety, the tank mix compatibility list is long, allowing spray operators the flexibility of a wide range of ALS joint applications with both Corteva ALS herbicides, as well as those from other manufacturers.

Pioneer® turns 100 in 2026!
Next year marks a major milestone - Pioneer celebrates its 100th anniversary. Since 1926, Pioneer has been at the forefront of agricultural innovation, starting with the introduction of hybrid seed maize and continuing with breakthroughs in genetics.
This centenary is more than a celebration of the past - it’s about shaping the future of farming together. As we approach this historic moment, we invite you to join us in commemorating a century of progress and partnership.
In 1989, Pioneer expanded its global footprint by establishing operations in the United Kingdom and Ireland, marking a significant milestone in its European growth strategy. This move allowed the company to bring its expertise in hybrid seed technology closer to farmers in these regions, supporting local agriculture with innovative products and tailored agronomic services. The UK and Ireland entry reflected Pioneer’s commitment to advancing crop performance and strengthening relationships within the European farming community.
